Discover, experience, learn from nature!
The area that now comprises the “El Totoral” multi-purpose natural reserve was formerly inhabited by indigenous communities. Then with the arrival of the Spaniards, the region was populated with cattle-breeding haciendas called “estancias”. Thereafter logging of their forests and firewood extraction was conducted, as well as topsoil for tobacco plantations.
The El Totoral reserve is located in a transition zone (“ecotone”) between the jungle foothills Salta and Chaco Serrano, two ecologically rich ecosystems. This is a protected natural area intended to preserve the environment, protect the flora and fauna, providing a space for scientific research and develop sustainable production projects. Also seeks to integrate the surrounding communities by supporting local artisans.
